Howdy Berlin Natural Bakery Family! 

I hope you are doing well, enjoying the (sort of) changing season and that you find peace as the sun sets a little earlier and things slow down a bit. 

Although things definitely aren’t slowing down for us! It’s bread season and we’re swamped but loving every second of it. And truly, we remain grateful because this time last year we were painfully understaffed and it thankfully feels like we’ve turned a corner in that. 🙏

However, a new challenge has emerged! As of last month, a fairly large chain made the decision to only carry our Old Fashioned Fashioned Sourdough Spelt Bread. They made the claim that they hardly sell our other varieties but with the amount of phone calls and emails we’ve been getting - that’s starting to be hard to believe! 

Unfortunately this type of thing happens commonly in our ever-evolving world. With technology on the rise and the grocery stores and health food stores continually evolving - it’s unfortunate but not unexpected. 

This particular chain is enormous and officially operates as one giant unit which means that even if our Sprouted Spelt bread was a HUGE performer in a town, state or region - it might not look that way on a global scale. 

Which means a decision like that leaves behind it a huge number of people who are frustrated that they suddenly don’t have access to their daily bread. And what concerns me the most is: not everyone will go so far as to pick up the phone or check out our website or shoot us an email. 

But thankfully, our customers seem to be built of go-getters who KNOW real bread when they taste it and refuse to compromise for less! 🙌

All that to say, thank goodness for our online store in moments like these! Also, we do have a store locator but sometimes it isn’t the most up to date because it has been compiled over about 20 years so if you stumble upon a store that doesn’t have our bread or is no longer in business - please let us know. 

For the moment, we are going to be offering a discount on 6 loaves of our Sprouted Spelt and 6 loaves of our Original Whole Grain Spelt bread. You will see them in the Spelt bread section of our website. Hopefully that makes the transition easier on those of you working with us directly for the first time. 

I just wanted to say, the decision by this chain and unfortunately so many others is one of those things that is tricky for us to navigate. We’re small potatoes to most chains like this so in some ways - we’re grateful to even be working with them in the first place! But as the brick and mortar store landscape continues to change, I pray we are able to evolve to keep up. 

What you can count on from us is this: even though the world around us changes, we will stand firm on our beliefs that doing what’s right even when it isn’t easy beats all. Our breads will stay made of high quality, limited ingredients. We still bake in small batches even though it is an incredible amount of work compared to companies who are manufacturing bread. ❤️

We may be the little guys but I stand behind my newest nickname for us: the little bakery that could! Because we have beaten the odds before and we will continue to  do just that. I believe we are on the verge of some incredible breakthroughs so rest assured - even when news like this hits our ears, we remain hopeful and focused!
